Dear all,
on a beautiful Monday morning, I have a story for you to read and figure out what song inspired it. I'll post a YouTube video up on Thursday so you can pop by and see if you were right.
She glanced at the clock for the umpteenth time that hour, trying to stop stop STOP her mind calculating how much time it had been since he had left her. 7 hours and how many days?
The minutes ticked onwards, bringing early night to her windows and a chill to the air.
Her days were for sleeping now, rendering the nights unbearably long and empty. Loneliness sitting heavily inside her, she pushed back her covers, shivering as her toes met the cold floor. It was time to go out.
She could do whatever she wanted, with whoever took her fancy. Would she eat in a nice restaurant tonight? The thought would normally have lifted her spirits, but the blues these days were a constant companion, keeping her spirits low and her tears readily available.
Nobody or nothing could make her as happy as he had.
How would she surive? Could she survive?
She gazed out her window at the dusk, the swallows flirting in the pale violet sky. But even the birds were silent.
Only last night she had put her arms around a boy, hoping to ease the ache of solitude. But he, like them all, only reminded her of what she wanted to forget.
As for the doctor, he had told her to go out and have some fun. What did he know? He's a fool.
The foxes below meandered willfully through the garden, her dead garden. All the flowers had returned to the earth.
It was hard, living with him...but she desperately wanted to try again.
Because nothing or nobody would ever make her as happy as he had.
ooooh, love this...but i have no idea what song this is....
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristi, am worried now, because I reckon you're so good at this, that no-one will get it :) uh-oh!
ReplyDeleteIt's by Heart, I think. Not Alone, but the one where the clock is ticking on the wall.
ReplyDeleteGood guess... :)
DeleteI'm stumped! Great story!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer :)
DeleteThe song became a worldwide hit, topping charts in Ireland, Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. It also became a top-five single in France and a top-20 in Denmark. The single was certified platinum in Austria and the United Kingdom, and gold in Germany and Sweden.
ReplyDeleteIn the United States it spent four weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100; in addition, it was a number-one in Billboard Alternative Songs chart and reached number two on Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. It became the third best-selling single of 1990, the 82nd best-selling single of the 1990s, and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in April 1990
Loved the story, but have absolutely no idea what the song is.
ReplyDeleteCallie Hutton
Thanks Callie for dropping on by...
ReplyDeleteLOL...I'm with Callie....the story was awesome, but I have no memory for songs. I totally live music in the moment!
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda the same too! I was reading it through wondering would I know it (and I adored this song, played it over and over) Thanks for coming by Christine
DeleteHave no idea. But I fed your fish :-)
ReplyDeleteWhere would my fish be without you, Sharon?! Dead to the world ...Thanks!
DeleteLove the story, but have no idea about the song that inspired it... But unless it's country (as in George Strait and that ilk), hard rock (as in Def Lepard and the such), or Southern rock (think Lynyard Synyrd), I lost.
ReplyDeleteOkay good to know your music preferences...! Thanks for coming by!
DeleteStrike three for me. Love the story though.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could start giving a hint to help those of us who didn't listen across the genre board from year to year, those with swiss cheese for brains? Like if it's from the 80s, or an American/British band/solo artist, male/female, or- my fave- a genre, country/pop/metal.
Good idea, Calisa, I did post the wikipedia blurb but will expand on it too...thanks!
DeleteOkay so, this song was written by Prince but performed by a female singer, released in '89/'90. The video was just a close up of the singer with beautiful eyes.
DeleteGosh, tricky one, can only think of the song 'Can't Live, if living is without you` - not sure of its exact title. I'm rubbish at guessing anyway but I like the little story, so will be interested to find out what the answer is!
ReplyDeleteAh thanks Penny for coming by :) good guess and it may feature soon, that song. Thanks for liking the story too :) Hope you have a great day!
DeleteGot it! Nothing compares to you by Sinead O'Connor. I love the story - never paid attention to the words of the verse before, poor girl!
ReplyDeleteWell are you right? Hmmm very good guess but you'll have to come back on Thursday to see :)
